Ten Ideas for Quitting Smoking
July 4, 2009 by TreadmillsCenter
The number one reason why people fail to quit smoking can be traced to deeply entrenched ideas that may be difficult to reorient. Without a doubt, quitting this unhealthy habit requires changing one’s way of thinking. Here are ten ways to quit smoking. Also, know that there is no single best way to quit smoking.
1. Educate yourself about the many, many, many dangers of smoking. Most smokers fail to quit because they are not aware of the fatal effects of smoking. Worse, most smokers already know the dangers of smoking, but they cling to the false belief that they’re not true – at least, until such time when they develop the particular ailment or disease.
2. Remind yourself that you’re not immune from ailments and diseases. You’re a mere mortal. You’re no alien from a dead world. Your body is susceptible to wear and tear, and smoking enlarges that coefficient a dozen times. You’re not excluded from the dangers of smoking. You’re just like any other person: you’re only human.
3. Know that you are stronger than how you think you are. You don’t have to surrender to the smallest desire to smoke. If another person asks you to jump in front of a rampaging herd of elephants, will you? You’re not an idiot, right? Hence, you’re not stupid enough to put to waste 7 minutes of your life with every stick you smoke.
4. Stop treating a stick of cigarette as a prize. It isn’t.
5. Realize that smoking will never make you hip. These days, when people would rather enjoy proper wellbeing and live a long life, smokers are viewed with scorn.
6. know that though smoking may help you relieve stress, it will come at a costly price. The dangers of smoking are too grave to ignore. Would you rather have a few stress-free minutes at the price of a lot of years subtracted from your life?
7. No one ever said that you should smoke after taking a meal. Smoking won’t take away the taste of food within your mouth. Want to eliminate such? Toothbrush and toothpaste will do the trick.
8. Realize that when you smoke in public, you’re committing murder. Second-hand smoke is just as dangerous as the smoke you inhale. When you smoke in a public venue, you become a messenger of death and decay.
9. Realize that smoking will not help you lose weight. Cigarettes burn your heart, not your fats.
10. Remember that smoking won’t help you keep your focus at work. It’s all in the mind. It’s all about you and not what you depend on.
11. Bonus tip: There are stop smoking drugs out there to help you finally quit, including some that will help relieve the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal .
